Sustainability
About Us
Wireless Communications is passionate about the environment.
Wireless Communications is passionate about participating in a range of sustainability endeavours. These include a low carbon environment by ensuring we minimise our own carbon footprint and progressively provide ICT solutions to our clients that have little or no net impact on the environment, as well as E-waste recycling to reduce our impact on pollution and over compensation of resources.
Our Carbon Neutral Efforts
One of our sister organisations owns and operates a 500 square km sheep station in the outback region of South Australia. This property has been operated as a traditional sheep station for the past 120+ years and over the last two decades as an Organic steel station. In 2018 we started to substantially modify the property to operate within the low carbon environment and, proudly, since April 2021 our property has been registered as a Carbon Farm by the Clean Energy Regulator of Australia.
The quantum of the carbon credits we are generating negate the carbon footprint of our business in its own right and one of our strategies for the future is to work through what it means to offer our excess credits to our clients of Wireless to offset their own carbon footprints given our property continues to generate a substantial amount of carbon credits each year.
Even seeing it with your own eyes, its hard to fathom the vastness and beauty of the property’s natural bushland. It is truly a privilege to be in a position where we are able to place this focus on supporting the environment and also provide this opportunity to clients in the future.
Our management team continue to embark on projects to develop methodologies where our clients can benefit from working with an ICT company that has access to substantial carbon credits, with the vision of offering an additional benefit over and above providing traditional ICT services.
Please contact us if your business is interested in measuring and offsetting your own emissions and being part of our pilot study program.
E-Waste Recycling
In line with our environmental & sustainability efforts, Wireless Communications recycles unused electronic equipment through local certified electronic waste businesses and over the years we have recycled tonnes of E-waste.
E-waste recycling helps reduces pollution, conserves resources and allows for various components of the unwanted to be reclaimed. Various precious metals such as gold, copper, nickel and silver are able to be obtained and recycled through this process.
Another benefit of this process being scheduled, is that unsupported, faulty or idle equipment is regularly removed and securely destroyed. These devices often have business or personal information remaining on them and are more accessible than active devices which could lead to this information being harvested by cyber criminals, even if the device in its current state is unusable. It isn’t just desktops and servers, but can include printers, routers, smart fridges or robotic vacuums which are just a few devices you may not regularly see as a risk but in fact hold large amounts of personal information.
When beginning the process, clients may elect to remove hard drives and destroy them locally themselves, otherwise this data destruction is included in our process. At the completion of each round of recycling, we are provided with a Data Destruction Certificate and a Certificate of Guarantee to certify the items have been recycled.
For clients with access to our Client Portal, we provide the certificates and details of what was E-wasted, including serial numbers for your governance, awareness and peace of mind.
