Hardening includes the process of removing components of systems that are not required, to reduce the avenues hackers can use to access the system.
Maintaining backups and ensuring the latest security updates are applied is important in hardening as well. Another key aspect is ensuring authentication is required for users and there is control on who is able to access the data.
